Carlos Giacomozzi has over 12 years of experience in the fields of corporate social responsibility, environmental sustainability and human rights. Always working as an independent contractor, he started his CSR career in January/2004 at Cal Safety and Compliance Corporation (CSCC) conducting Code of Conduct assessments for Fortune 500 companies in South and Central America, Asia and Africa.

Carlos is an SA8000 and WRAP Certified Lead Auditor. Over the years, he has traveled to more than 20 countries and has conducted over 1000 audits in a variety of industry sectors including apparel and footwear manufacturing, agriculture, and food processing. Carlos has audited salmon processing and packing plants in Chile, jewelry factory in Peru, soft drink bottling plants in Angola, toy factories in China, sugarcane and orange fields in Brazil, cornfields in Argentina. He has also conducted CTPAT, SMETA and BSCI audits.

He has worked for 7 years managing The Timberland Company’s CSR program for apparel and footwear factories in Brazil, Argentina and Dominican Republic. During this period, Carlos worked with factory compliance training and monitoring programs, development and implementation of sustainable corrective action plans, and supplier capacity building and sustainability programs used to measure and improve social and environmental performance of suppliers.

He has participated in projects led by Social Accountability International. Carlos has also led the field team on a country level assessment of human rights in Brazilian sugarcane over a period of 12 months.

Carlos holds a University Degree in International Trade from the Universidade Regional de Blumenau, Brazil.

For Carlos, a good day at work is a day spent out in the field talking with workers, managers, unions, community groups, NGOs, brands and government officials to better understand the issues and what needs to be done to fix them in an effective and sustainable manner. Workers and stakeholders engagement is key to successful CSR programs.
